Being an Adult™ and having friends means sometimes figuring out unconventional methods to keep in touch. As a notoriously terrible text-backer, Perrye finally got sick of Gaby’s shit and decided to start a shared document where we would drop topics for the next time we talked. The document quickly became a smorgasbord of hockey things touching on everything from the latest WAG messiness to the failures of the sport and the league to keep their players safe.
For the past year, we’d both been talking about wanting to write more beyond the occasional thread on Twitter. So, we’re turning to a newsletter to share our thoughts on topics that deserve more than 280 characters. We’ll be covering a range of issues - from the latest scandal of the week, shit we’re obsessing over, to what we would do if we were in charge of running Puck Personalities.
Also, team allegiance?!
Everyone deserves a good drag once in a while.
If you’ve stayed with us so far, we want to officially welcome you and hope you’ll subscribe so you can follow the (cursed) thoughts of two great humans with hater tendencies.
And always remember, at the end of the day, it’s just hockey.
With love,
Perrye & Gaby
About Us
Perrye
As a daughter of immigrants in Canada, it was almost a rite of passage to get into the sport. I was an avid NHL watcher and Habs supporter until the big P.K. Subban trade on June 29, 2016. After hearing the news, I took a break from the league and continued with my life. I got my bachelor’s degree, travelled the world, got cancer, and had my first grown-up job.
However, it appears that I’m a little masochistic, and during the early months of the pandemic - in a fit of boredom - I accidentally reimmersed myself into the NHL fandom after seeing a truly cursed tweet about Mat Barzal. I put my clown shoes back on and caught up on the last four years of the sport. Ironically, it was pretty easy to do since little had changed.
One thing did change - me. I grew so much over my time out of hockey, and it made me realize that I didn’t see the league through the same rose-tinted glasses that I did before. As fascinating and entertaining as the hockey world may be, my goal is to analyze the sport through my experiences.
When I’m not catching up on hockey stories or tv shows, I’m an MA student with research interests in colorism, post-colonialism, and the portrayal of Black people in the media and popular culture. I’m also a heavy social media user, so you never have to look too far to find me, just holla at @perryedseraphin on Twitter.

About 6 years ago, a hockey exec pissed me off and I’ve been on a revenge tour ever since. Since that fateful meeting, I’ve spent a lot of time (perhaps Too Much) learning about the history of hockey, structural violence in sports, and generally being bewildered by choices made by everyone involved in the sport.
It feels almost like a universal truth that while we may love hockey, hockey certainly does not love us. In a previous iteration of my Twitter account (RIP dcolonizehockey), I did a lot of threads around topics that made being a hockey fan complex and often filled with hurt. With this newsletter, I’m excited to explore new topics and revisit some old faves including “the worst hockey things I’ve ever read.”
In real life, I am a former non-profit professional and current student focusing on Social Policy. My hobbies include telling people I’m from the West Side of Chicago, doing secret Hockey Shit, napping, forgetting to reply to messages, and hanging out with my dogs; Lula, Biggie Smalls, and Spot. You can find me on Twitter @hockeynuisance or lurking at your nearest plant store.
